Bookie Life Update: Corper Shaun!

Guess who is serving her National Youth Service Corps at Abia State?

I’m a Sworn-In Corp member, Platoon 5 of the Batch C Stream 1 at Abia Permanent NYSC Camp at Umunna Bende L.G.A, Abia State (Eastern part of Nigeria). I laughed so hard when I saw my deployment to my father’s state of origin. Camp has been an different experience. It’s a regimented space with a lot of physical activities, drills and parades and lectures. My day here starts with Morning Mediation and P.E at 5am, Lectures from midmorning until lunch and siesta, Parade and Drills from 4pm to 6pm with Lights out 10pm.

I’m certain my thunder thighs can break coconuts!

I packed some books to read but haven’t had reading time. I picked up Karamo, My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope Friday night. I’m currently reading it and loving how Karamo narrates his childhood and how being different influenced him. I’m reading a chapter ‘Pain of Colorism’ on black men.

I volunteered to join the Orientation Broadcasting Service (Campus Radio station, Event Hosting, News, Sound and technical Engineering and Social Media) Within 2 days of joining I opened a new Twitter account, created a Social media Team of Corp Members who take pictures, edit, caption, Instagram(@abianysc) and Live Tweet(@abia_nysc) various events on the camp. It’s been fun but stressful work coordinating social media. The PRO and State Coordinator love my Team and I’s work. Coordinating Social Media is the most fun work I get to do on camp. I did Twitter engagement for Aké Festival 2019 Content Media Team. Doing it at camp brings me some familiar comfort in this new space.

All my hardwork at Nigerian Law School, Yola campus paid off! I’m immensely grateful to; my support squad, God, She has been incredible, and my readers. You Gems always read my blog inspite of the irregular post schedule. Time for celebration!
